Ethical Buying Policy

Tinsmiths is committed to minimising the impact of its activities on the environment.

At the root of Tinsmiths is a passion for good design with longevity, both practically and stylistically, which we want you to cherish and use for years to come. We think hard about what we offer and how we go about it, aiming to source close to home where possible and to reduce the impact our own operations might have upon the wider environment.

The key points of the strategy to achieve this are:

  • We source and promote a product range which minimises the environmental impact of both production and distribution. We try to maintain a product range that is 70% or more UK made; fabrics woven in the North of England, pots thrown in the surrounding counties, kitchen utensils, hooks and ironwork from local makers, with as much as possible of the remainder from a group of excellent Fairtrade suppliers.
  • Our fabric collection reflects our commitment to sustainability through a choice of predominantly natural or organic fibre cloth or those made from upcycled cottons or post-consumer recycled plastic yarns. Many of our fabrics carry the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certificate which certifies they have been tested for harmful substances, and within our range are fabrics further approved by the international Global Recycled Standard (GRS). We endeavour to continue sourcing and expanding the availability of fabrics which meet these standards.
  • We will only use animal products which are a by-product of the meat industry. We don’t use skins or pelts of animals which are raised solely for obtaining their skins – products such as sheepskin and stag horn come from animals which have been raised for meat only. Our range of soaps and skincare products are botanical based and not tested on animals.
  • We actively promote recycling both internally and amongst our customers and suppliers – because we reuse as much as possible of the packaging that our orders come in, this may mean that your parcel may look rather unconventional.
