Winchcombe Pottery

There has been a pottery at Winchcombe for over 200 years. The good local clay suggested the site and many generations of pottery have made use of it. Currently three potters working together are breathing new life into the place: throwers Matt Grimitt, John Forster and Joseph Fuller are using traditional pottery wheels to produce wood-fired stoneware pots that certainly follow in the recent Finch tradition but are moving ahead with suggestions of their own. The pots are thrown and turned, fired to over 1200 degrees; turning out tableware that is REALLY robust - microwave, dishwasher and ovenproof. The only restriction is that of contact with a naked flame or hob-top. Each of these simple shapes has a serenity and simplicity that blends really easily and quietly with a kitchen or dining room.
