Curtains for Mark Hearlds York home

An Artists home

It was with enormous pleasure that the Tinsmiths team set about making curtains for our friend Mark Hearlds York home. Marks home which has been widely featured in World of Interiors and The Bible of British Taste is a collectors home full of the treasures gleaned in auctions, flea markets and antique shops.

Mark is a natural textile designer, he designs fabrics with such a fluid pattern repeat that always looks natural and unforced; the patterns flow without the repeat jumping out. All of Marks furnishing fabrics are for St Judes Fabrics and the collection has grown steadily over the years.

The latest addition to the collection is ‘White Heart’ which has a somewhat different flavour from earlier fabrics as it is based on a papercut design rather than the linocut prints that have previously been the starting point for Marks textiles. It was a particular pleasure to make up ‘White Heart’ for Marks sitting room curtains and give Mark the opportunity to see the design as curtains for the first time.

We selected slim brass poles to hang Marks curtains on, striped of lacquer they will gently tarnish over the coming years to add to the layered patina of age that runs throughout Marks home. The heading styles were generally unfussy; Cartridge Pleats or Double Pleats, with fabrics as beautifully designed as these a little less fullness means that the pattern can be appreciated rather than hidden in a mass of folds and pleats.
