Sarah Burns Patterns (Sarah Burns and Alice Garner) are block printers who are passionate about pattern and the natural world. Working from a small workshop on the South Downs in Sussex, they make hand-blocked and naturally dyed papers and fabrics.

Making fabrics and papers which are beautiful but also kind to the environment, is key to their practice. They pioneer the revival of ancient techniques like natural dyeing, using plants such as walnut, ash and birch, and block printing which doesn’t use harsh chemicals.

They use their own hand-cut blocks and natural dyes that are foraged for seasonally in the field and woods around them. The colours and patterns are inspired by the chalk downs, water meadows and ancient tracks nearby.
