About the Maker
Edmund Davies category collage

Edmund Davies is a studio potter based in Norwich. His practice revolves around the production of beautiful, functional ceramics – made both on and off the wheel. His work takes influence from historical ceramics, contemporary design and the material properties of clay.

After graduating with a BA in architecture, Edmund’s attention returned to a former interest in pottery which began as a teenager, and which developed into his current passion for throwing on the wheel, and a change of career plan.

Today, Edmund not only creates his own range of ceramics, but he is also the cofounder of Helgate Pottery in Norwich, a community ceramics studio, with an open yet rigorous approach to making and thinking about pots.

Edmund Davies Large Nerikomi Plate EDPL2

£49.00

Highly distinctive, nerikomi plate hand thrown by Norwich potter, Edmund Davies.

Edmund’s nerikomi is a combined mix of stained clay, whiteclay and terracotta. They are made by cutting and assembling the clays into a ‘loaf’, a little like a stick of Brighton rock, from which Edmund slices off layers to form into plates. One of the delightful results of this technique, is that the patterns created appear on both the front and reverse of the plates. This combination is also evident on the edge of the plate.

Image two shows the unglazed reverse.

Washing by hand is recommended to prolong the life of this piece.
